Amey’s Ewan Angus awarded gold medal at the Institution of Civil Engineers Awards

Amey is proud to announce that Ewan Angus, Major Bridges Director, has been awarded the 2026 Institution of Civil Engineers Gold Medal award for Engineering Excellence, one of the most prestigious honours in the civil engineering profession.

The ICE Gold Medal recognises individuals who have made a sustained, insightful and ethical contribution to civil engineering and reflects the Institution’s commitment to advancing technical knowledge and ethical understanding across the profession worldwide. Ewan was recognised for his outstanding technical expertise, ethical leadership and long‑standing commitment to sharing knowledge throughout the industry.

Widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading long‑span bridge engineers, Ewan has played a pivotal role in several nationally significant infrastructure projects. Most notably, he provided critical engineering leadership during the Forth Road Bridge works, supporting the safe management and recovery of the structure during a period of closure. He is currently leading engineering work on the Severn Bridge, including the delivery of world‑leading engineering solutions to ensure the continued safety and resilience of its main suspension cable.

Reacting to the honour, Ewan Angus said: “It is a real privilege to receive the ICE Gold Medal. My career has been shaped by the challenges of working on complex, nationally significant infrastructure and by the people I have worked with along the way. I have always sought to apply engineering first principles in solving complex problems and believed in the power of sharing knowledge. This recognition from the ICE means a great deal to me.”
