HMPPS leaders gather for showcase of Amey’s rehabilitation programme Step Ahead

Amey showcased its Step Ahead Pathway at a live delivery event in Birmingham, bringing together senior justice partners, stakeholders and delivery teams to support wider rollout across the prison estate.

Step Ahead provides a structured pathway to support rehabilitation, helping individuals build skills and confidence for life beyond custody. The programme initially launched at HMP Brinsford, where early delivery has provided valuable insight into what works and how the programme can be successfully embedded.

The event brought together governors, colleagues and delivery partners from HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, enabling prospective sites to see the programme in action and hear directly from delivery teams. With a focus on generating interest from new establishments and sharing practical learning from the programme’s first year, it also provided clear next steps for governors, including guidance on setup, examples of effective delivery and advice on embedding Step Ahead within their own establishments. The session also highlighted the importance of partnership working in delivering sustainable rehabilitation outcomes.
