Amey and MOD back UK supply chain with £26m Defence equipment investment to support national resilience

Amey in partnership with the MOD’s National Armaments Materiel (NAM) are investing £26 million in new equipment for UK Defence, in a move that will strengthen military readiness and support the resilience of the UK’s industrial supply chain.

The investment will deliver 96 Medium Wheeled Tractors and 61 excavators to modernise part of the MOD’s operational fleet. The new assets will be managed through Amey’s MITER contract, which provides around 4,500 items of construction, earthmoving and materials-handling equipment to Defence.

Senior leaders from Defence, Amey and industry marked the announcement at the headquarters of JCB, the successful supplier, in Uttoxeter, where the new equipment was showcased alongside wider discussions on Defence readiness, UK manufacturing and national resilience.

The programme has been developed through a close partnership between Amey and NAM, combining Defence insight with Amey’s strategic asset management expertise. Together, the partners assessed operational need, fleet performance and long-term value before selecting the right replacement solution.

The contract, which followed a competitive procurement process, forms part of Amey’s wider commitment to invest in UK capability where it supports Defence outcomes, delivers value for money and strengthens the supply chains that underpin national security.

The investment comes as the UK places increasing focus on industrial resilience, sovereign capability and the role of domestic supply chains in supporting national security. For Amey and NAM, the programme is a practical example of how long-term partnerships can turn operational need into investment that benefits Defence users, industry and the wider UK economy.
